The reminiscences of a master mariner whose first contact with Australia came when he was shipwrecked off the North-East coast of Queensland in 1854. By the 1860s he had established himself as a mariner involved in the Queensland coastal trade and soon became renowned for his skill in marine salvage. A pioneer of the Queensland coastal and river trade, his reminiscences are an important source for the social and commercial history of early settlement in Queensland.
